Spinal Integration refers to the optimal structural relationships
between of a variety of bones (and their associated muscles)
that lie deep within the body at its ‘core’.
Specifically these bony ‘core’ components are the spinal
column with its 24 vertebral bodies, the coccyx, sacrum,
pelvic bones and the cranium including the jaw and the teeth.
They are designed to function as a highly integrated structural
unit and when they do so, we typically enjoy good energy levels
and good health. The principal reason for this is because every
system within the body at some level passes through the ‘core’
via nervous pathways and is therefore controlled by it.
The fact that this system operates as an integrated whole is the reason that we perform ‘spinal integration’ techniques as we know that the tendency to return to balance is ever present.
BALANCING THE CORE
When the ‘core’ has contortions and misalignments (subluxations) at any level, direct reflections can be detected in the muscular, nervous, visceral and endocrine systems.
These reflections can manifest as pain anywhere in the body, or as headaches, lack of mobility, digestive conditions, breathing conditions, menstrual conditions, low energy levels, confusion, and literally hundreds of other symptoms.
When ‘core’ contortions and misalignments are re-balanced with NST, nerve energy flows again as function to muscles, organs and glands is restored while symptoms vanish and energy levels are restored. Once again we can move freely with robust energy and clarity of thought.
The term ‘tensegrity’ (tensional integrity) refers to the dynamic and static relationships that exist between our elastic soft tissues and harder bony tissues, and helps us to understand the very simple but important principle that ‘muscles move bones’ and generally not the other way around.
Essentially we are able to remain upright not because of our unstable bony skeleton but because of the combined tensional forces acting on the skeleton.
To this extent NST has been strategically designed and constructed to re-set the ‘tensegrity’ of the soft tissues that will ultimately determine the precision and sustainability of spinal integration and consequently postural integrity.
In NST the spinal column, pelvic girdle and cranium are referred to as the ‘core’ of the body.
Core Tensegrity refers to the ability of this dynamically interactive unity to maintain its structural integrity as a whole and within is components as we work, rest and play.
When we consider the concept of ‘tensegrity’ as it relates to the ‘core’ we must firstly consider the deep para-spinal muscles and then the various layers of muscles that overlay the spinal column such as the Sacrospinalis group, that run from sacrum to cranium not only providing support to the spinal column but also enabling the possibility of twisting flexing bending and rotating.
Latissimus Dorsi, Quadratus Lumborum and Psoas muscles also demand consideration.
In NST we take the story even further to consider the tensional forces of the upper and lower extremities and the diaphragm all of which influence the ‘tensegrity’ of the ‘core’ in their own way.
If we think of the body’s tensional system as one muscle with many compartments we’ll be getting closer to understanding why it is so important to address the body as an integrated whole in which any part can affect the whole and the whole can affect any part.
Muscles move bones!
During a treatment session a gentle series of “corrections “ or small movements are made over key areas of the lower back ,upper back ,sacrum .diaphragm and neck .In subsequent sessions leg /arm or jaw “corrections” may be applied.
The treatment usually lasts for three quarters of an hour to an hour ,you may wear lightweight leggings/tee shirt during a treatment.(please note the online booking system shows 30 min slots for treatment but please allow an hour )
The movements are applied and you are then left to relax for a couple of minute between each stage .
After care is very important as changes will continue to take place for up to seven days.
Drink at least 6 glasses of water per day
Avoid hot baths for at least 48 hrs.
Avoid crossing your legs when sitting .
Walk for at least 15 minutes per day.
