What is Acupuncture ?
Lynda Sharp practices a style of acupuncture
called TCM which has been used in mainland
China for thousands of years .This style of
Acupuncture may be ancient but it has retained
an aesthetic and pragmatic relevance for
humankind today. Of course, any tradition
remains vital only insofar as it allows itself
to grow and develop. The Chinese tradition
is no different. Based on ancient and revered
texts such as the Nei jing 300 BC it has
continued to grow and develop to be a
robust health care system which is still
relevant in modern times.
What does treatment entail?
The initial appointment is longer (allow an hour 1hr to 1hr 15mins) in order to gain a full health profile and a treatment plan is formulated .Your follow up appointments tend to last from 45 mins to an hour.
The actual treatment with Acupuncture Needles is painless involving very fine sterile needles which may be left in place from a few seconds up to 20 minutes.
During the treatment patients commonly experience a feeling of pleasant relaxation and heaviness of the limbs. Generally you will be left to relax in a quiet warm room with needles in place on a comfortable treatment couch with a light blanket.
This allows for relaxation but you won't be left unattended.
Sometimes a treatment may incorporated massage, cupping or perhaps the needles may be gently warmed by a herbal substance known as moxa which is applied to the end of the needle and lit.

At the start of a treatment program the appointments tend to be fairy close together either twice weekly or once per week ,as you improve treatments are spaced out to fortnightly or monthly.
Some patients chose to come in for regular “top - ups” perhaps once every couple of months .
The speed of “improvement” is highly variable and depends on many factors such as general health, medication, age etc .
At the very least you are recommended to try three sessions as if it is going to work for you an improvement is usually starting to happen by the third treatment.
You will not be pressurized into paying for a lengthy course of treatment, patients generally pay their fee after each session and you can chose to stop a course of treatment at any time.
If you are confident about booking a block of treatments we do offer a small discount on prepaid blocks of three or six treatments.Ask at reception about this.
If you do not like the idea of needles!
Lynda has a low level laser which can be used instead of needles or she can offer NST Bowen therapy .
Sometimes you will be recommended to have an NST Bowen session before starting your course of Acupuncture as it is very effective at “clearing” and “re-aligning the body”
